Craig Larkin New Beginnings Annual Scholarship

The Craig P. Larkin New Beginnings Scholarship was established in memory of Craig P. Larkin. It is an annual scholarship in the amount of $400, to be awarded to a student or students enrolled in the Homeland Security or Emergency Management degree program. Preference will be given to a student who has a documented disability. The scholarship is renewable providing that the student maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average and remains in good standing in the major.

The scholarship will be awarded following SUNY Canton’s application and review process for awarding scholarships.

Craig P. Larkin was enrolled in the SUNY Canton online BS Homeland Security and Emergency Management Program when he passed away on April 23, 2016, from complications of a heart attack. Craig was born on April 9, 1970. He was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and worked at several welding companies before going to MVCC for mechanical engineering from 1991-94. Craig attended NTTS Trucking School College, in 1995, and went on to drive 18-wheeler trucks, as owner and operator of Larkin Trucking, from 1995-2008. Craig was previously a ham radio operator for the Red Cross Voluntary Emergency Communications and was serving as the ARES Emergency Communications Coordinator for the ARRL National Association for Amateur Radio, ARRL EG Oneida County, New York. He loved fishing, hunting, photography, driving across country in his 18-wheeler, being a CB and ham radio operator, and was actively involved in weather and storm chasing. He always called his friends and family to let them know a storm was coming so that they would be safe. He especially loved his mom’s homemade soup, home-cooked meals, cards, banners and humor.
